Events for October!

Open Book Comics Fest 2014 is over and it was awesome!

This year I had to man my table solo. Its was hard work what with a 12 hour shift on the Saturday and a 10 hour shift on the Sunday, but at the end of the weekend, it all seemed worthwhile!
I met some awesome new artists and fans, and introduced many more people so South African comics!

I hope to see everyone at Open Book Comics Fest 2015!

Next up is a book signing at The Unseen Shoppe in Westville, Durban at 10:00 on 4 October!
You can join the event on Facebook here!
How do I get there? - here you go!

Then from 10-12 October Dave and I will be at rAge Expo at the Coca Cola Dome in Johannesburg!
It's gonna be huge!
We have a table in the Legion Ink artist's alley and we will be selling Gofu and Tomica comics, as well as art prints, T-Shirts and other goodies!

See you around!

It's time for...Open Book Comics Fest 2014!

One month to go to Open Book Comics Fest 2014 and UO Comics will be there!

Hi guys! I can't wait for Open Book Comics Fest!
Since I sat at home crying over my keyboard while watching events unfold at San Diego Comic Con in July, I've been super excited to get out and be part of the next best thing! Open Book Comics Fest 2014!

Open Book Comics Fest 2013

Come visit my table at the Comics Fest market, where I'll be selling Gofu Part 1, Gofu Part 2 and, of course Tomica #1!

Yup!, I'll have three comics for sale at the show!
Gofu Part 1: R40.00
Gofu Part 2: R40.00
Tomica #1: R30.00

Open Book Comics Fest is officially the launch of our new quarterly print edition of Tomica in a special mini-comic strip format.
Tomica will come out every 3 months and will feature rocking sci-fi action that you haven't seen in comics since the days of Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers!
Every issue of Tomica includes special print-exclusive features such as character bios, space maps and vehicle tech specs!

If you have pre-ordered Tomica, thank you, you rock and you hve no idea how much it helps!

Keep an eye open for announcements on pre-orders for Tomica #2 - much sooner than you think! ;)

Of course there will be all kinds of other goodies for sale at my table such as prints and original art.

Gofu Part one is also available in full colour in The Velocity Anthology #4!
Be sure to swing by Velocity's table and pick up a copy! Check them out on Facebook too!

Tomica Mini-Comic #1 Available for Pre-Order now!

Our webcomic, Tomica, is about to be launched at Open Book Comics Fest on the 20th of September!

Tomica is a sci-fi comic strip adventure set in the world of Unknown Origins, re-printing the webcomic strips in a unique mini-comic format, designed to fit your wallet and your pocket!

Tomica is an action-packed sci-fi adventure following the exploits of the adventurer, Tomica Twim.
Finding himself entangled in the dark underworld of tech raiding, Tomica must overcome insurmountable odds.
Follow Tomica’s quest through ancient temples, disintegrating space ports and steamy jungles across the universe!
Written by David Covas Lourenco and drawn by Deon de Lange.

At Reader's Den Free Comic Book Day, I had a limited edition Tomica mini-comic for sale as a proof of concept. That special edition featured the first 6 strips from Tomica and the Nexus Apparatus, and sold out in one day!

This September, Tomica issue #1 will be published and will then continue quarterly as our first on-going comic book!
Each comic will feature 18 Tomica strips and exclusive print edition content in a collectable 24 page mini-comic.
From issue #2, the Tomica mini-comics will also run ahead of the webcomic edition, so you can read the story before it goes online!
Plus I always feel comics look best in print anyway ;)

These comics will not have large print runs, so it's very important for you to pre-order your Tomica collectible comic for only R29.95 or $3.00 (free shipping included!) or you just might miss out!
We expect them to sell out fast!

Pre-orders are very important to comic creators, because it gives us an indication of the demand for our comic, which then allows us to more accurately estimate how many copies we need to print.

I've made it as easy as possible for you guys to place your pre-orders to secure your copies. The pre-orders include free shipping worldwide!

If you use Paypal, we take PayPal!

If you have a smartphone and an SA card, you can pay easily using Snapscan, the new, award winning SA payment app. You can also do it right here from this handy info-graphic below:
(Alternately just email Deon at info@uocomics.com to place an order and pay via EFT)

See you guys at Open Book Comics Fest 2014!

July is Comic Con month! And SA will be there!

July is gearing up to be a very exciting month for SA Comics! And for UO Comics.

The Velocity Anthology issue #4 is set to launch at San Diego Comic Con on 26 July.
If you're at the con, make sure you don't miss the panel: "Velocity, in pursuit of the southern hemisphere comics industry" on Saturday, 26th, 5:30-6:30pm, room 24ABC!
Neville Howard (Velocity AUS), Daniel Hugo (Oneironaut) and Rupert Greyling  will be there, and hopefully Moray Rhoda (Velocity SA) will be joining them. They will be talking about the recent rise of comics from South Africa and Australia.
UO Comics will be represented by a special full color version of Gofu that is published in Velocity issue #4, and hopefully some sample copies of Gofu 1 and 2 as well as Tomica, if we can get them to San Diego!

This Saturday ( 6 July) there is a special pre-launch of Velocity 4 at Reader's Den comic shop in Claremont, Cape Town, with several contributing artists on hand to sign your book! Copies are limited, so get there early! More launches are planned in Johannesburg, Sidney and Melbourne, so keep an eye open for updates!

But that's not all...
This month Heavy Metal Magazine #269 (just THE biggest sci-fi comics mag in the western world, if you didn't know), has awesome cover art by South Africa artist, Eben de Waal, and Chis Beukes's comic, Apocalypse Chef inside! This makes me very excited at the prospect that some eyes may indeed already be on the SA comics community.

So much happening in SA comics at the moment!

Getting ready for FCBD in Cape Town!

I'm in full-on FCBD mode here and super excited for the launch of Gofu Part 2!
I don't live in Cape Town, but this will be my third trip down from Durban to Reader's Den Comic Shop's annual event, which is becoming bigger and more awesome every year!
Of course this is the first time that I will have a table at the FCBD market with my wife, Starbright Girl Jewelery, who will be selling her awesome, custom geek swag, made specially for the event!

Fellow Durbanites, it is well worth the effort to make a pilgrimage down to Cape Town for Reader's Den Free Comic Book Day, especially since we don't have our own local comic shop!
Do iiiit! Make it your annual comic binge!
